What changes from one neighborhood to the next

- Older frontages. On Spanish and Mediterranean elevations the door sits inside an arch or a stucco surround that was never built to a modern standard size.
- Historic streets. Some blocks sit inside a historic district, so it is worth checking the address before choosing a new door.
- Coastal air. Nearer the ocean, salt reaches hinges, rollers and spring surfaces, so corrosion shows up as a noisy door sooner than it would inland.

If the door has already failed
Do not touch a snapped torsion spring or a door that has come off its track. Both hold or release enough force to injure somebody seriously. Leave the door where it is, keep people and cars clear, and call. Either one is emergency work.
