Garage door opener repair and installation in Los Angeles
An opener that reverses the door off the floor, hums without moving, or runs while nothing happens is telling you something specific. We diagnose the opener and the door together, then write the price down before any work starts.

An opener is a motor, a rail and a set of safety devices that must agree with each other. When one stops agreeing the door says so specifically: it reverses a foot off the floor, it hums without moving, or it runs while the door stays put. The first job on site is working out which.
What usually goes wrong
- The door starts down, then reverses. Nearly always the photo-eye sensors: out of line, dusty, or a damaged wire. See a door that will not close.
- The motor runs, the door does not move. The trolley is on the manual release, the drive gear has stripped, or a failed spring has left the door unbalanced. More on that split: opener runs but the door does not move.
- Grinding, rattling or a single bang. Noise is diagnostic, and what the sound means narrows it down before the head comes off.
- The remote is intermittent, or nothing happens at all. Receiver, logic board, wiring at the wall button, interference, a tripped breaker, or a head at the end of its life.
A snapped torsion spring or a door off its track is different, and not one to touch: those parts hold the weight of the door under tension and can injure you badly. Leave it where it is and call us for spring repair or cable and track repair.

When repair beats replacement
Repair is right when the unit is sound and the failure is a part. Sensors, limit switches, a gear kit, a logic board, a rail, a remote or keypad all go in without touching the motor. Replacement makes more sense when the opener predates rolling-code security, or when the door itself is being replaced and it would be odd to hang a new door off a tired motor.
The brands we work on
We service the major opener brands sold into this market. LiftMaster is among them, and its sensors, gear kits, logic boards and remotes are ordinary work for our technicians. Chamberlain and Genie units are common here too. We are independent, so what we tell you is about the unit on your ceiling, not about a brand we are tied to.
Drive types in plain terms
- Chain drive. A metal chain pulls the trolley. Strong and simple, the loudest of the group.
- Belt drive. A reinforced belt instead of the chain. Much quieter, and the choice when there is living space above the garage.
- Screw drive. A threaded steel rod does the work. Fewer moving parts, noise between the other two.
- Wall mount, also called jackshaft. Sits beside the torsion shaft and turns it directly. No rail, no motor overhead.

Low headroom, and why a wall mount solves it
Plenty of Los Angeles garages were never built for a ceiling rail: hillside houses with the garage tucked underneath, tandem garages with a beam or ducting overhead. A wall mount clears the ceiling and hands back the space over the door. It is the standard answer for low headroom and hillside garages, and it needs a torsion spring system on the shaft, which we check.
Battery backup is required in California
This one surprises people on the driveway. California requires an automatic opener installed on a home to have a battery backup, so the door still opens when the power is out. When a new garage door goes on and the opener goes with it, the replacement has to be a battery-backup unit. It is a code requirement, so we raise it now and not at the end.

What happens when we come out
Call and we arrange the appointment on the phone, or send the form and we call back to set it up. Our technicians look at the opener and the door together, because much of what gets called an opener fault is a balance problem. The inspection and estimate are free whether or not you go ahead, and an opener or part we install is listed on the invoice with its specification. Our technicians carry the common parts normal garage door work calls for, so a good deal of it gets finished on the first visit. We cover Los Angeles County.
Openers are one part of garage door repair. If the door itself looks tired, see a new one on your own house, then book a free estimate.
