If your gate has stopped working

Call and describe what the gate is doing and when it started. Most of the gate calls we get look like one of these.

  • The operator runs or hums and the gate stays where it is.
  • The gate opens partway, stops, or rolls back on itself.
  • A slide gate has come off its track, or the wheels have seized.
  • A swing leaf has dropped and drags on the concrete.
  • A hinge, a weld, or a post has failed and the frame has gone out of square.
  • The keypad, the intercom, or the remote no longer triggers anything.
  • There is no power at the operator at all.

Our technicians repair the gate itself and the operator that drives it. That means welding and steelwork on the leaf and the frame, hinges, wheels, tracks and stops, the operator and its control board, the safety devices, and the wiring and power feed that runs out to it.

The inspection and the estimate are free, and they stay free whether or not you go ahead with the work.

A gate that has failed open leaves the driveway open to the street, and a gate that has failed closed can shut a car in. Do not force a heavy leaf by hand in either case. Leave it where it is and call.

Operators and access control

We repair and install operators for swing gates and slide gates, and the access control on the entry side of them. Keypads, intercoms, remotes, card and fob readers, exit sensors and free exit loops, and the photo eyes and safety loops that stop a gate closing on a car or a person. We work on the major operator brands used in this market, LiftMaster among them.

If an operator is past repair, we replace it. If a gate has never had one, we can add one, which usually means a post or a pad for the operator, a power feed trenched out to it, and the safety devices wired in and tested.

If you are planning a new gate

The driveway settles most of it before anything is drawn. A swing gate needs room to open without fouling a driveway that rises away from the street, and room for the leaf to sit clear of parked cars. A slide gate needs a straight run along the fence line to travel into. Width, slope, and what is under the ground at the post positions all move the answer.

We fabricate gates in steel, and we install prefabricated gates where a sourced gate suits the opening and the look you want. The work behind either one is the same. Post positions set out, footings dug and poured, the posts set plumb and left to cure before any weight hangs on them, then the gate hung, the operator mounted, power trenched in, and the access control wired and tested.

A gate and a garage door sit on the same frontage and people read them together from the street, so if both are in play, settle them together. One visit can cover both, with a separate written price for each.

For the garage door half of the frontage there is more to look at. Replacement doors covers what that job involves, and see it on your house puts a door on a photo of your own frontage before you commit to anything.

Commercial gates

The same work at a different scale. Parking entries, yard and delivery gates, the operators on them, and the access control that keeps them shut to everyone except the people who should be coming through. Tell us what the gate is doing, or what the entrance needs to do, and we will come and look at it.

Call, we answer, and we arrange the appointment with you on the phone. If you send the estimate form instead, we call you back and arrange it the same way. Say it is a gate when you get through, and whether it has stopped working or you are planning a new one.
