Garage door cable, roller and track repair in Los Angeles
Cables, rollers, hinges, drums and track keep the door running true. When one of them goes, the rest wear fast, and a door hanging on one cable is not something to pull at.

A rub at one roller can end a few weeks later as a door sitting crooked in its opening.
What fails, and why
Cables
The lift cables run from a bracket at the bottom of the door up to the drums on the spring shaft. They fray from the bottom up, usually in the last few inches, where a damp slab keeps them wet. They also jump the drum when the door lands on an obstruction. A cable that parts under load drops that corner of the door at once.
Drums
Drums are the grooved castings that wind the cable as the door rises. A set screw loosens, the drum slips, and the two sides stop winding together, so the door lifts at an angle and the cable goes slack. The drums share the shaft with the springs, so this is spring-side work.
Rollers
Rollers carry the door on small bearings. Unsealed steel bearings pick up grit and dry out until the wheel skids instead of rolling. Nylon rollers stay quiet for years, then flat-spot or split at the stem. Worn rollers are behind most doors that grind or rattle, and they score the track as they go.
Hinges
Hinges join the sections and hold the roller stems. On an older steel door the hinge holes elongate, so the roller meets the track at a slight angle. You hear that as a knock at the same point in every cycle.
Track
Vertical track takes the impacts, usually a bumper or a leaning ladder. The horizontal run and the curve bend when a door comes down on something, or when the hangers loosen. Any of it can push the door out of its track.

Why a bent track is not straightened in place
Track is formed steel, holding the door to a close tolerance. Hammer a damaged section back and you get something nearly straight that no longer has the original profile, so the roller loads unevenly there and the door works its way out again. The bent length gets replaced, the run set plumb, the gap adjusted to the door. Prying at a loaded track is also the moment doors come down. If your door is off its track, or a cable is hanging loose, leave it and stop using the opener. The same goes for a broken spring. Both hold enough stored energy to injure someone badly.

What the repair involves
The door is secured and the load released before anything is touched. We then look at every roller, both cables, both drums, the hinges and the full length of track, because these parts wear as a group. Cables go back in pairs, rollers as a set, damaged track by the section. The door is balanced and run by hand before the opener goes back on it.
Our technicians carry the parts normal garage door service calls for. Lift cables, rollers, hinges, brackets and the fasteners that go with them ride on the van in the sizes that fit most residential doors, because cables and rollers are among the parts that fail. A part particular to your door, an odd drum or a track section that has to match an older profile, is sourced, and you hear about that at the diagnosis, before any work starts.

When repair is the wrong spend
Hardware is worth renewing on a sound door. Where the door itself has taken the damage, a crushed bottom section or panels that have been off the track more than once, replacement is often the better spend. You can preview a new door on a photo of your own house before deciding, and what affects the price covers the rest.
